Following earthquake damage and the demolition of their original home, the clients chose to rebuild on their existing site near the stream, a location they had long cherished. The new residence adopts a single-level plan, providing level entry and ease of access while establishing a seamless connection between interior spaces and the surrounding gardens.

Durable, low-maintenance materials were selected to ensure longevity and resilience, including aluminium and copper panel cladding, bluestone and plastered lightweight concrete. While the house presents as long and low from the exterior, the central passageway and main living and dining areas rise to a generous four-metre ceiling height. This sense of volume is achieved through an intricate structural steel framework, introducing spatial drama within an otherwise restrained form.

Chris Beer Architectural Builders were engaged early in the project, collaborating closely with the owners and architect throughout the design process. This integrated approach fostered a cohesive working relationship and enabled a smooth construction phase. The result is a contemporary home that balances accessibility, structural clarity and a strong connection to its landscape setting.
