Located on Rosanna Road in Melbourne’s north-east, the Assisi Centre redevelopment is set within the grounds of the heritage-listed Sisters of Mercy Convent. The multi-stage masterplan responds to increasing demand for retirement and aged care services, reimagining the existing site as an integrated community that balances growth with respect for its historic setting.

The plan introduces three new retirement living apartment buildings alongside the carefully retrofitted convent, while extending residential aged care provision to accommodate up to 210 residents with varying care needs. A dedicated community hub forms the social heart of the development, incorporating function spaces, dining venues, wellness facilities and healthcare services. Together, these elements support ageing in place and offer residents a range of lifestyle choices within a cohesive, campus-style environment.

Arrival is defined by views to the convent and its established gardens, which anchor the identity of the precinct. Communal recreation spaces connect to a central piazza, reinforcing the convent’s role as a shared entry and gathering point. The broader site is organised into discrete precincts, clearly separating retirement living from residential care while maintaining visual and pedestrian connections, creating a legible and dignified environment for residents and visitors alike.
