Prince Henry At Little Bay

Client:
St Luke’s and Bookfeild Multiplex
Location:
Little Bay | NSW Australia
Delivered:
2006

Located at Little Bay, 20 minutes from Sydney’s CBD, Prince Henry occupies the last undeveloped beachfront along Sydney’s eastern suburbs coastline. Delivered in partnership between Brookfield Multiplex and St Luke’s Care, the precinct integrates independent living and residential aged care within a cohesive masterplan developed in collaboration with Eeles Trelease Architects.

Across the coastal site, a series of low-rise apartment buildings respond to ocean views, landscaped courtyards and direct beach access. One elevated four-storey building provides 45 one-, two- and three-bedroom independent living units above basement parking, its white façade articulated with varied terrace forms to moderate scale and reinforce a residential character. Additional three- and four-storey buildings accommodate a further 84 apartments, with built form broken into distinct elements to preserve view corridors and introduce sheltered communal gardens. Convivial shared living and dining areas, supported by 24-hour concierge services, foster both independence and security.

A contemporary aged care facility completes the precinct, stepping down in height from four to two storeys as it moves away from Anzac Parade. Its practical H-shaped plan defines northern and southern courtyards linked by a central communal space at ground level, promoting light, outlook and orientation. Integrated environmental design and considered landscaping underpin the development, creating a coastal community that balances autonomy, care and connection to place.
