Somerville Police Station provides a modern facility for Victoria Police, supporting approximately 150 staff across the Uniform Branch, Highway Patrol, Crime Scene Unit and Executive Branch. Designed to meet the operational needs of a growing local and regional community, the station consolidates relocated personnel while accommodating additional staff for future growth.

The building follows the natural contours of the site, conserving existing trees and integrating seamlessly with its residential surroundings. A ground-hugging precast concrete base conveys permanence and protection, while the upper level features folded Corten steel cladding shaped into a five-point star, referencing Victoria Police’s core values of integrity, leadership, flexibility, respect and professionalism. The warm tones of the cladding echo the local landscape, including fallen leaves and pinecones.

Internally, the connection to the environment continues through timber panelling and a neutral, textural palette. Large windows provide tree-top views and bring natural light deep into offices, creating a workspace that is both secure and inviting. The overall design balances civic presence, operational functionality and sensitivity to the surrounding landscape, delivering a facility that serves both the police and the community.
