Part of the Ministry of Education Christchurch Rebuild Programme, Kaiapoi High School is being reshaped through a comprehensive masterplan designed to support up to 1,800 students. The project builds on the school’s established pastoral house system, creating a more integrated and future-ready campus.

The masterplan organises the school into distinct learning communities of approximately 450 students, each supported by modern, flexible learning environments. Classrooms and shared spaces are arranged to encourage collaboration and varied teaching approaches, reflecting contemporary pedagogical thinking. The layout strengthens connections between spaces while maintaining the identity and structure of the house system.

By aligning educational philosophy with built form, the redevelopment creates a campus that is cohesive, adaptable and clear in its organisation. The result is a school environment designed to evolve with changing teaching practices while fostering connection, belonging and academic growth.
