St Mary of the Cross Primary School embodies a decade of pedagogical thinking, bringing together contemporary learning, community engagement, sustainability and technology. The school is designed as a 21st-century learning environment that also functions as a true community hub.

The first stage of the masterplan accommodates 250 students and was developed through an inclusive design process involving the Catholic Education Office, parish and school community. The resulting campus features flexible and agile learning environments, seamlessly connected to specialist spaces and outdoor learning areas. These spaces are designed to support a variety of teaching approaches and foster collaboration, creativity and independent learning.

Within the interior, two sculptural “Bee Hives” form a central focus. These transparent structures create opportunities for both group and individual learning, while maintaining visual connectivity and a playful scale throughout the surrounding spaces. Together, the design supports a dynamic, engaging environment that encourages exploration and interaction while reflecting the school’s broader role as a community hub.
