Te Parito Kōwhai Russley School, established in 1963 in North-West Christchurch, accommodates 430–470 students and is preparing for future growth, with its roll projected to reach around 550 following the inclusion of the Karamu subdivision. The campus combines established outdoor play areas with a clear vision for flexible, modern learning environments.

The redevelopment responds to both current needs and anticipated growth, with a masterplan that introduces three new buildings to provide 20 learning spaces, a library, and administrative facilities. The first building, completed in late 2023, includes four learning spaces, breakout areas, a library, and key administrative areas. An 800m² second building with eight learning spaces is currently under construction, with a third block of similar scale planned to follow. The staged approach ensures continuity of learning while expanding the campus thoughtfully and efficiently.

Arranged around a three-sided, north-facing courtyard, the new buildings reinforce the connection between indoor and outdoor environments. Landscaping has been carefully designed to provide accessible outdoor learning spaces, play areas, and gathering points for the whole school. Flexible, light-filled interiors with natural ventilation and high-quality acoustics support collaborative and adaptable learning. Each teaching space links seamlessly to wet areas, breakout zones, and outdoor environments, enabling multi-purpose use and ensuring that ākonga (students) can engage with learning in diverse, connected ways.
